Beacon BayNewport Beach, CA
This harborfront residence, located in Newport Beach's exclusive Beacon Bay community, maximizes the lot's potential for indoor-outdoor living through the use of large sliding glass doors that open the main room directly to the water, an enclosed first-floor patio for outdoor lounging, and a semi-covered rooftop deck on the third floor, allowing for views over much of the harbor. Because the lot borders a small park to one side, the home presented a unique opportunity to design a fun and welcoming approach to the residence, uncommon for the high-density neighborhood, and to bring light into the length of the house from the same side. Inside, light, beachy tones create a comfortable atmosphere perfect for the home's coastal context, while dark wood flooring and black accents throughout modernize the interior. A number of custom details, including a curved glass-and-steel wall enclosing the upstairs office from the main hallway, give the home its own character.
Fun accents, like bright copper trim and window planters, make the traditional home easily distinguishable from its neighbors
The top floor's curved window provides flare to the side of the home facing the harbor, while bringing in light to the master bedroom
The well-equipped kitchen was designed to be both highly-functional and casual at the same time, with built-in seating along the back wall providing storage and a perfect spot to enjoy a morning cup of coffee.
A custom steel-and-glass divider separates the main dining room from the entry foyer while not detracting from the room's open feel
The master suite, located on the second floor, was situated to enjoy the full extent of the harbor view, and boasts fabulous views across the channel both from the bed and from the master bath
